Congratulations to the Bar Flies
WE WOULD like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Bar Flies of the Fox and Hounds for their magnificent win in the recent Children of Fiji quiz.
It was a very enjoyable evening and we give a big thank you to Neil and Roma for organising the event.
THE annual Cattistock village tidy up is taking place this Saturday.
However, for this to be successful, more volunteers are needed.
If you can spare an hour to help with this worthy cause, please contact Allen on 01300 320630. Gloves and bags will be provided
CATTISTOCK fete committee is holding a barn dance in the Savill Hall from 8pm on April 19.
Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children and can be obtained in advance from Cattistock Post Office or at the door on the day.
Please bring along a plate of food to share during the interval. There will be a bar run by the Fox and Hounds. Ruth Thompson and her band will be providing the music and instructions, and all profits will be towards the fete funds.
ALSO on April 19, from 8pm in Evershot Village Hall, you can enjoy the sounds of Moveable Feast.
To listen to this mixture of world wide music - (folk, Latin, reggae, ska, gypsy, klezmer, jive, country, Cajun, blues .), just come along to the hall and pay your £6 at the door.
WE HOPE that everyone in the Cattistock and Maiden Newton areas have now got used to the change of day for the refuse collection.
It is now every Monday with, as before, recycling taking place every two weeks. To get you used to the 2 weekly cycle for recycling the next date for this is April 21.
MAIDEN Newton at War is hosting a fundraising brunch on Sunday, April 20 in Maiden Newton Village Hall.
The time is 10.30 to 12.30 and the cost is £4.50
AS MANY readers will be aware, Cattistock Open Gardens Day this year is on June 29.
This is always a very enjoyable event and people travel from afar to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of our lovely village and to walk around the various gardens.
We need all shapes and sizes of garden, including flower gardens and vegetables gardens, lawns or patios - basically, if you enjoy your own garden, then why not share some of that enjoyment with others.
It is all in a very worthy cause, as the profits from this event are to be shared between the Special Care Baby Unit at Dorchester Hospital and the charity Facing the World, which carries out facial reconstructive surgery for children from third world and developing countries.
If you would be happy share your garden with visitors for this one afternoon, then please contact us on 01300 320433 or 07880 591962.
ONCE again we are being told that many people are receiving phone calls from companies offering a variety of services such as double glazing, roof repairs, patio and garden work and security systems.
It is quite likely that many of these companies are genuine, but some are not. Our advice is to not divulge your personal information over the phone and certainly not to enter into any agreements.
If you wish to follow up any cold calling, obtain the name, address and phone number of the company and then check that it is legitimate.
Do not invite anyone to your premises unless you have friends, neighbours or family there with you.
Do not arrange to see anybody if you are on your own or if you feel in any way vulnerable. Too many people have been caught out and lost savings, dignity and confidence. Don't become a victim.
IF YOU would like to have a chat with our Community Support Officers, Sarah and Jacqui, then you can see them over a cup of coffee every other Thursday between 9.45 and 11.15 in Maiden Newton Coffee Shop.
The next date for this is April 17 and then every two weeks thereafter.
9:52am Monday 7th April 2008
