PCSO organising drop-in sessions

A MEETING of the parish council was held in the Savill Hall, Cattistock on March 31.

Sarah Pilcher, a PCSO from the Safer Neighbourhood Scheme, attended the meeting unannounced.

She stated that she is hoping to organise a regular drop-in session in the Fox and Hounds for members of the public. There will be more details to follow as they become available.

A minute's silence was held for Wilf Rogers, who died recently. Wilf was the longest serving member of the parish council, having served on the Cattistock Parish Council before the Frome Valley Parish Council was formed in 1973.

His local knowledge was invaluable and he will be greatly missed First Responders. A cheque was raised for £1,288.61 in respect of the Parish Council's donation to this project Parish Plan: A draft was circulated to the members present. The final document will be on display to the public on May 4 at the Dorset Knob Throwing and Frome Valley Food Festival.

Cattistock Community Space (Playing Field). The contract for the cutting of the grass in the playing field has been awarded to Mr J Carver from Maiden Newton.

Mr Carver has come highly recommended from Maiden Newton and Frampton Parish Councils.

The next meeting of the parish council will be on Tuesday, May 27.

  • WE HAVE been asked by the Parish Council to include the following item: Residents should be reminded that we have reached the time of year when jobbing gardeners come out of hibernation and we start to hear horror stories of poor workmanship and overcharging.

Please remember that you should always obtain at least three quotes before employing tradesmen and that you should report all suspicious people and vehicles promptly to the police.

Also there have been reports of telesales calls from an alarm and fire safety company who state that the company is in the local area giving crime prevention advice and are recommended /approved / working with the Dorset Police.

Dorset Police do not work directly with any security company to provide this type of advice.

  • WE, LIKE many other people in the Cattistock area, put out our recycling bags and boxes on April 7.

    How wrong we were!

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the wrong dates listed in our previous article and now make it clear that our recycling days are April 14, 28 and every two weeks thereafter.

  • MAIDEN Newton Village Hall Committee is holding its AGM in the hall at 7.30 on April 24.

Everyone is welcome so do come along and support your local village hall.

  • THERE are very few lawn tennis clubs left in Dorset but Cattistock is lucky enough to have one.

The new season begins on April 22 and new members are welcome.

Club sessions are on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings, and the courts are available to members and their guests throughout the season.

Social events include a coffee morning on May 24 and a barbecue party on July 6.

In the autumn there will be a quiz and a skittles night. If you are interested in becoming a member (if you join before the season begins you will receive a discount), then please ring Kath on 01308 862540.
