It's up in the air with the Dorset Knobs!
KNOB throwing is coming to Cattistock as part of the fete celebrations for 2008.
This unique event, combined with a Frome Valley food festival, takes place on Sunday, May 4 from 10am to 4pm in the Savill Hall and playing fields.
Besides knob throwing, there will be additional knob attractions including knob painting, a knob and spoon race, knob tossing, knob conkers, knob darts and a knob pyramid.
Alongside the knob activities will be a food festival featuring local producers from Dorset and Somerset and the opportunity to sample some of the finest foods from our area.
There will be other more traditional entertainment on the day to make this a truly memorable occasion for all the family.
Moores, the producers of the famous Dorset Knob biscuit, in association with Direct from Dorset, have kindly agreed to give their support, along with the Dorset Area of Outstanding Beauty partnership.
Free parking will be available in the village.
All proceeds from this and the other fete events will be divided between the cricket club, the football club, the Savill Hall and the playing fields.
For more information about the event please give Nigel or Shelley a call on 01300 320404.
A BIG thank you to all the volunteers who donned rubber gloves and, armed with their green bags, went off around Cattistock in search of litter.
We know that everyone (well obviously not everyone or else we wouldn't have to do this each year) appreciates living in a litter free environment and it is a shame that so few people turned up on the day.
Nevertheless, they did a fantastic job and we would also like to thank Allen for organising the village clean-up this year.
EVERSHOT annual village meeting will take place in the village hall on Tuesday, May 6.
This will be followed by the AGM of the Evershot Parish Council and then the Evershot Parish Council meeting.
At the annual village meeting there will be reports on activities over the previous 12 months concerning the church, the village hall, the cricket pitch, the parish plan and the village.
PEOPLE of Rampisham are planning to turn out in support of Steve Norman's Lands End to John O'Groats cycle ride with a party/pub night in the village hall on May 10.
Food will be provided by Mick Norman and the rest of the family, and profits from the bar, collecting boxes and raffle will go to the Motor Neurone Disease charity on completion of Steve's ride.
Do come along and join in the fun, whilst supporting this very worthy cause, chosen by Steve in memory of his brother.
Of course, if you are anywhere along the route around the end of May, then do give him a shout of encouragement and support!
ANYONE with a bit of an artistic flair might be interested in joining the Maiden Newton Art Group.
This is a very friendly group that welcomes people of all ages and abilities. You are free to use whichever medium you prefer, so why not ring for more details (01300 320340 or 320863).
On May 7 between 10am and 4pm there will be an all day workshop with Marilyn Allis, when the subject will be Buildings and People.
Morning coffee and lunch will be provided on this occasion at an extra charge.
CONGRATULATIONS to Lisa Hammett of Cattistock for completing the Paris Marathon in under five hours and raising a substantial amount of money for the charity Get Kids Going, a very worthwhile cause that provides sports equipment for disabled children. Lisa says that she really enjoyed the experience and thanks all those who supported her.
