First response is a cream tea!

11:16am Monday 7th July 2008

  • CATTISTOCK First Responders invite you to enjoy an afternoon of cream teas at Chilfrome Cottage on Sunday, July 20 between 3 and 5pm.

Relax and enjoy your cream tea in a spacious, traditional country garden with shady lawns and walled kitchen garden.

There are toilet facilities and disabled access to the garden.

Entry is free and cream teas will be on sale at £3.50 each.

We urge you to come along to support this very important life saving initiative.

The First Responders have now completed their training and are on hand to help wherever and whenever they are needed.

Whilst we obviously hope that we shall not be needing their services, it is very reassuring to know that they are there and will know how to react in an emergency.

  • IF YOU are in the Melbury Bubb area on the same day (Sunday, July 20), you can buy your cream tea in aid of Little Acorns of Evershot. This event takes place between 2.30 and 5pm at Woolcombe Farm.
  • LITTLE Acorns is running a holiday club again this year, starting on Monday, July 28 and Thursday, July 31 (and every Monday and Thursday throughout the school summer holiday).

The club takes place in the School Discovery Centre from 9am to 4pm.

The cost is £8 for a morning session or £15 for a full day.

Do book early, as places are filling up fast!

For more details and a booking form, please call 01935 83039 or 01935 435958.

  • AFTER a very pleasant and sunny week, the people of Cattistock listened with dismay to the severe weather warnings that were given for Saturday, July 5, the day set aside for the village fete.

On the morning we woke to sunshine and strong winds, but, with those warnings still ringing in our ears, the decision was made to move most of the stalls and attractions indoors - either into the Savill Hall or the Fox & Hounds.

What a wise decision that was!

By the end of the afternoon the rain was torrential and we were all so pleased to be in the dry.

The theme of this year's fete was Schooldays' and many people came along dressed accordingly.

Despite the weather, much fun was had by all and a good amount of money was raised to share between the Playing Fields, the Cricket Club, the Football Club and the Savill Hall.

  • THERE were a number of exciting events leading up to Fete Day. Congratulations go to Jo and Georgina's team for winning the car treasure hunt.

Ben Sennett won the first prize for the Numberoids quiz and (much to their amazement) Peter and Margaret Long gained the best score in the pub games.

Well done to Bradley Damen for winning the skittles tournament!

  • THERE will be a barbecue/pub night in Rampisham Village Hall car park (or inside the hall if it turns out to be wet) on Saturday, July 19, starting at 6.30pm.

Rampisham has become famous for its summer barbecues - they are always fun and the food is never burnt!

  • THE TREACLE Eater Clog Dancers will be performing from 8pm outside the Fox & Hounds in Cattistock on Monday, July 21.

Do come along to support the dancers and to help keep this tradition alive.

  • SINCE the early 1980's the last Sunday in June in Cattistock has always meant the Gardens Walkabout, the Church Patronal Festival and WI Cream Teas.

A number of the present committee have served for many years and wish to take a break from their duties.

The remaining members of the committee are holding a short meeting in the Oak Room at the Fox & Hounds on Monday, July 28 at 7.30pm and are inviting anyone who is interested in keeping these events going.

You do not need to make any commitment at this stage, but do come along to the meeting to take part in the discussion.

If the date is not convenient, please ring Pam on 01300 320340 to express an interest.
