RECENT events organised by the Cattistock Garden Walkabout committee have raised a total of £1,000.
This year it was decided that the money should be divided between two very good causes, Dorchester Hospital Special Care Baby Unit and the charity Facing the World, which provides facial reconstructive surgery for children from developing countries.
We were privileged to be given a guided tour of the Special Care Baby Unit and were extremely impressed at the level of care and commitment shown by the staff there.
It was a very moving experience.
On the photograph are (from left to right) Student Nurse Gemma Hunt, Peter and Pam Taylor (representing the Garden Walkabout Committee), Sister Dawn Shields, Senior Staff Nurse Becky Joyce, Staff Nurse Emily Hughes and Unit Support Worker Hannah Lucas.
We also personally presented the cheque to the staff of Facing the World at their office on Fulham Road, London, and heard how they are giving a whole new start in life for children from all over the world.
Among their current cases are children from India, Laos and Ethiopia.
Do come along to enjoy a delicious tea and support this organisation that does so much for people in our area.
The music will take place between 1 and 3pm, so why not come along and soak up the atmosphere.
The next session will be held on Monday, August 11.
The subject this time will be holidays'.
As usual, refreshments will be served halfway through the evening.

For those who are not familiar with the event, it is a multi-terrain run that starts and finishes at the Youth and Community Centre in Chilfrome Lane.
The event is sponsored by John Stark and Crickmay Architects of Dorchester, so all money raised will go to support local groups and charities.
Anyone wishing to take part in the run should contact Phil England on 01300 320478 to obtain an entry form or make an online entry at www.runnersworld.co.uk If you do not wish to actually take part, your support and encouragement will still be greatly appreciated, so please come along and watch from anywhere along the route.
The event begins at 3pm and the cost is £3.50.
Any donations of cakes, plants or bric-a-brac would be appreciated.
All profits will go to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The venue will be Frome Farm and the service will be followed by a barbecue.
