  • THE parish council has received a number of requests for allotments and is seriously considering their provision.

In a time when organically and locally grown food is becoming more and more important, the demand for allotments is rising all over the country.

If you would like to join all those happy allotment owners out there, let Jacqui Cuff (parish xlerk - 01300 345405) or Nick Barker (district councillor - 01300 345238) know as soon as possible. Note that it can take up to a year to get allotments organised so prepare to be patient.

  • THE garden and small arboretum at Domineys will be open on Sunday, April 13 from 2-6pm within the framework of the National Gardens Scheme.

It will support the Arthritis Research Campaign (ARC). Teas and plants will be for sale with children under 12 years visiting free of charge.

To find out more, look at the Garden section of www.domineys.com.

  • CIRCUIT training - get fit and toned, ready for the summer!

Everyone is welcome to join the circuit training classes (age 10-plus) in the Village Hall on Saturday mornings, 9.30am or 10.45am.

Gary Easter from Dorchester Health Club holds the sessions which cater for all shapes, sizes and abilities.

Please note, however, that there will be NO classes on April 5 and 26 due to prior village hall bookings.

The weekly charge for these sessions is £4.50 for adults and £3 for under 18s.

A REMINDER that if you are planning to join the beating the bounds initiative on Sunday, April 27 it is time to return the tear-off slip to its initiator Mike Clark.

This is so the organisers have an idea of how many will take part in what is an attempt to revive an age-old tradition.

Copies of the forms are available from Cerne Abbas Stores. The aim is to walk the Cerne Abbas and Nether Cerne Boundaries as closely as possible, a route that totals approximately 14 miles.

A detailed view of the map can be viewed in the bus shelter opposite The Giant Inn.

Participants are welcome to walk part or all of the way and the day will finish with a barbecue at The New Inn.

Tickets for the barbecue will be for sale from April 1, also from Cerne Abbas Stores.

They cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children less than 10 years of age. Everyone is welcome to this barbecue, walkers or non-walkers.

If you would like more information about this event, contact Mike Clark on 01300 341269/341082.
