Help keep your parish magazine alive!

Sydling St. Nicholas

  • YOUR local parish magazine - The Chalk Stream - still needs a few more volunteers for its future production.

Even though the responses so far have been quite good, Ken Scott, the editor, is looking for two or three volunteers to duplicate the magazine.

Sydling St. Nicholas is one of the villages The Chalk Stream serves so do let Ken know (01300 320429).

Alternatively come along to The Rectory, Frampton, Dorchester on Monday, April 28 in the afternoon when the May issue is being printed.

The task consists of basically feeding paper into a machine but does require concentration at times.

There are also fairly heavy boxes of paper to lift so volunteers have to be reasonably fit.

Another two or three people are needed to join the collating/stapling team.

The main skill in this process is dexterity, ability to work right-handed and again a degree of fitness.

With both tasks, the upside is a great amount of fun and conviviality amongst your fellow workers.

If you are interested in joining the collating/stapling team, please come along to The Rectory on Tuesday, April 29 in the morning when the May issue will be collated in The Rectory kitchen.

  • DATE for your diaries: Sydling Fun Run is taking place once again this year in the morning of Sunday, 28 September 2008.

Please note this date as this run will once again raise important funds for the church.

More information will be available nearer the time but the usual format will remain.

This means a five km run for those of 13 years and above and two km run for the younger ones.

A walk for those wanting to participate but not to run will be an option again as well.

  • EASTER Bingo Night on Friday, March 17 brought in an amazing £ 100 and an enormous "Thank You" goes to everyone who took part in whatever capacity.

  • HAND-CRAFTED jewellery will be on offer at Penny Cordy's annual Open Day. This lady who lives at Hazel Cottage, 1 Waterside Lane will once again open her home on Saturday, 26 April for everyone to take a look at her uniquely crafted necklaces, chokers, ear rings and much more.

There is no obligation to buy and she produces jewellery on request as well.

Almost anything can be done according to your style, feel free to bring clothes and accessories to match.

The Open Day starts at 11am and ends at 6pm.

Other times can be arranged by phoning Penny on 01300 341618.

    Cerne Abbas

  • "ABBOTSBURY with lots of questions marks" will be the title of the next talk held by the Cerne Historical Society.

It will take place on Thursday, 24 April and the guest speaker is Peter Laurie.

Peter is part of their heritage team which managed to gain a lottery grant to look in depth at the history of Abbotsbury.

It will be fascinating to see if there are any parallels with Cerne Abbas as the two abbeys were established only a few decades apart.

The meeting will be, as ever, in the village hall, non-members are very welcome, against a payment of a small fee.
