THE sun was shining for the Mayor and Mayoress of Chickerell, Councillor John Dean and Mrs Gillian Dean's, Civic Service on the afternoon of Sunday, April 13 in St Mary's Church in North Square, Chickerell.

The service was conducted by the Reverend Richard Press and visitors commented that "it was a beautiful service with a very moving anthem sang by St Mary's Church choir".

The mayor and mayoress's son, Alistair Dean, played the organ.

Dignitaries from all over the Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire areas were invited to attend including mayors, council chairmen and the High Sherriff of Dorset.

After the service they were all invited back to the Willowbed Hall for afternoon tea and cakes made and served by Mrs Yvonne Eaton and her team of volunteers from the Chickerell luncheon club.

The High Sherriff of Dorset, Mr Raymond, made a speech and thanked the mayor for a very enjoyable afternoon.

He commented on what a lovely place Chickerell was, how pretty St Mary's Church was and how he would definitely make the effort to come back and explore the area and the church.

The mayor thanked everyone for making the effort to travel and attend the service.
