Chickerell School News

  • A polite notice about children playing on the Chickerell school playground after school.

In the past the school has been very keen to support children and give them somewhere to play in a safe environment.

However, the school has recently found that this trust is being abused by children who have damaged school equipment and have then refused to leave the premises when the caretaker locks up.

They have spoken to the police and they have informed them that once the school gates are locked anyone found on the school premises is trespassing and they are within their rights to phone the police and report them. Unfortunately due to these recent incidents they now have no other choice but to lock the school gates earlier.

They are very sorry that they have had to take this action but feel that it is necessary to keep the school a safe environment in which to work and play.

  • ON a happier note the school would like to thank the parents for all their support during the Ofsted inspection which recently took place.

The inspectors were very impressed by the school and thought the children were wonderful - a real credit to their parents and the school.

The school has also been chosen as a Teaching Awards finalist in the south west for a Sustainable School 2008 award for all their hard work on healthy schools, the social and emotional well-being of the children and all the projects for recycling and looking after the environment that the school undertakes.

The judges have been in the school this week reviewing and evaluating what they do. Good luck to them.

  • THE school also recently hosted a SEAL open afternoon for schools around Dorset to look at, talk about and share with them in their learning.

It was a huge success with fourteen schools and over thirty staff and pupils coming to Chickerell.

They had extremely positive feedback from the guests about the children, the school environment and the teaching and learning that they saw.

The school councillors took the visitors around the school on a learning walk and from what I hear they did an excellent job.
