Bere Regis Youth Leader Terry Vine reports:
On Thursday, July 10, seven Lenny's youth club members enjoyed a free canoeing session at Buddens near Hyde provided by Dorset Youth Association.
The weather was overcast, cool and breezy, the norm this summer.
The session focused on the British Canoe Union (BCU) PaddlePower Start Award that involved the basic paddling skills required to move a kayak in a particular direction, forwards, backwards and sideways.
Having completed these tasks the group enjoyed a game of deck walking that saw a number falling off the kayaks into the water, but even this did not dampen their spirits!
This was just as well as the session was brought to an end with everyone's having to complete a capsize drill before reaching dry land.
Having changed into warm, dry clothing and consumed a hot drink, the members received their PaddlePower Start certificates. They were all looking forward to the next session later in the year.
Rounders will take place on the Tuesday, July 15, weather permitting with members enjoying a game or two on the sports field.
Outdoor games are always very popular and the rules always seem to become more flexible as each year passes.
A music night is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22 and the ever-popular wet games evening on Tuesday, July 29.
Other activities in the summer programme include face painting on Tuesday, August 19, and this is followed on Tuesday, August 26 with outdoors games.
Another canoeing session has been arranged with Dorset Youth Association for the afternoon of Sunday, August 31.
In September, the last of the planned outdoor activities brings rounders again on the Tuesday, September 9, and for the first time at the youth club the young members have the opportunity to paint their fingernails as part of a nail art evening.
This should be interesting for the boys!
The month rounds off with Who Am I on Thursday, September 23 and a dominoes challenge on Thursday, September 30..
New members are always most welcome. Just call in at the youth club on any club night or give me a call on 01929 471693.
Membership Fees: Juniors (8-11 year olds) £3.00 Seniors (12-17 year olds) £5.00
All 526 ducks were sold, and the evening was well supported by onlookers who enjoyed the barbecue and stalls at the scout hut in Elder Road.
In total, over £700 was raised to help to maintain the church.
The ride should raise £1,400 which will go towards resurfacing the increasingly soggy church paths.
