REVEREND Roy Bennett gives the following report:
"St Mary's Puddletown Middle School recently clocked up another first.
Eight young people were confirmed by Bishop Tim Thornton, Bishop of Sherborne, at a ceremony in the school.
"The candidates had been prepared by Puddletown vicar Benny Hazelhurst, helped by the Benefice curate, Rev Sarah Godfrey. As well as many family members and friends the candidates were supported by their local parish priests, Rev Helier Exon of Hilton, Cheselbourne and Melcombe Horsey and Rev Tony Monds Vicar of the Piddle Valley Churches.
"Headteacher Mr Winch welcomed the guests, and Bishop Tim conducted the service. "Among the guests was the Archbishop of the Province of the Episcopal church of the Sudan, the Most Rev Dr Daniel Deng Bull accompanied by his wife Deborah Abuk Atem.
"Bishop Tim's sermon revealed that he is a Dr Who fan and he shared that enthusiasm with the children as part of his talk to them.
"Archbishop Daniel answered questions put to him by the children including how he earned his living, (he is a farmer) and his dearest prayer, (that the war would cease and his country enjoy peace).

THERE will now be a break for two months from the ploughman's and puddings/soup and sweet lunches. The date for the next one is Friday, September 19 from noon till 1.30pm.
Thank you to everyone who has supported these delicious lunches over the past few months, either by helping with the preparation, serving and clearing up, or by coming along to eat them. An excess of £800 has been made, which is fantastic.
HELP is needed with the stall at the benefice fete at Athelhampton House on bank holiday Monday, August 25. The fete opens at noon, and finishes around 3pm.
Help is needed to run the tombola and the book stall, and also with car parking.
Donations of items for both these stalls would be welcome, as well as plants.
There is a helpers' list in the back of the church with time slots.
