THE WEATHER stayed fine, winds were light and at exactly 4pm on Saturday, July 12 (to the strains of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture) all eyes were turned skywards to marvel at the spectacular sight of over 1,300 coloured balloons (all completely bio-degradable) being released.
ABBEYFIELD'S McPherson House in Wyke Oliver Close recently held their annual garden party on a lovely sunny afternoon. Unfortunately the Sea Cadets Band was unable to perform, but Chairman Barbara Mills came to the rescue with her recordings, and all the visitors enjoyed the music while browsing through the bric-a-brac and plants, taking part in the tombola or viewing June Snell's marvellous display - helped by Margaret Tambling - of beautiful hand embroidered cards. Of course none of this would have been complete without the welcoming cups of tea and cakes which were being served. The money raised from the garden party goes towards the amenity fund for both of Abbeyfield's two houses in Weymouth, the other being Leigh House, which helps provide outings and other events for the residents.
AROUND 200 people of all ages came along during Sunday, July 13, to enjoy a community fun event enjoying the open space on the town green behind St Augustine's School.
