Councillor organising another litter pick
Councillor Simon Bowkett with his prized half bike and a group of very wet helpers
Councillor Simon Bowkett with his prized half bike and a group of very wet helpers

THERE was a very small turn out at the Partners and Community Together - Pact - meeting at Bincombe Court, which was a great shame as the more people that pull together the more we can achieve in the area!

The priorities from the last meeting were discussed first and we were made aware that the police had seized three of the motorbikes that were being illegally ridden over the fields causing a nuisance and arrested two people.

Unfortunately there are still several bikes up there and we were asked to take descriptions and call the police if we see them.

On the second priority from the last meeting, dog fouling in the area, we heard that if anything things had got worse rather than better.

Dog walkers are urged to pick up after their dogs! How would you feel if your child or grandchild arrived at your home with shoes covered in dog mess, or was blinded because of a picked up infection (toxicara canis)?

All it takes is a bit of thoughtfulness and a plastic bag! On the same subject we were told by Councillor Mark Tewkesbury that maybe in the future there was a possibility of dog bins being provided.

It also seems that although many owners pick up after their dogs, they seem to think its fine to dump the bag in the nearest hedgerow although it really doesn't take much to throw it in the nearest bin or take it home with you surely.

Maybe dog bins will help; maybe they won't; only time will tell. Still the situation should hopefully get a bit better as the lighter evenings approach.

Mark is still fighting for a bus shelter to be replaced on Louviers Road, although things are proving difficult as the new sponsored shelters are only being put on main routes and Louviers Road unfortunately doesn't fall into this category.

Keep trying Mark; you'll win in the end.

There have also been several reports of loose dogs roaming the estate and some of them not seeming to be very friendly.

This can be very frightening to an adult but it must be terrifying for a child as they are much smaller than we are and their faces are at teeth height.

The dog warden is being notified about these incidences but if you see a loose dog please report it.

The third priority for the next six weeks is the increase in anti-social behaviour with more graffiti appearing around the area in several places.

If you do happen to see the artists in action please alert the police as they can't be here all day every day and they need to hear from us to stop it.

Please don't forget to use 222222 unless the situation is an emergency in which case dial 999.

A survey is being carried out at the moment along Louviers Road by Councillor Simon Bowkett regarding the proposal to put lights up at the new play area on Louviers Road which would be on until 9pm with the Top Club in charge.

The park is being well used all the time now by locals and people from all areas of Weymouth.

A date was set for the next meeting to be held at the Community Hall, Canberra Road on Wednesday, March 26 at 7.30pm when a date will also be set for the next litter pick.

The last one held on a very wet day, although covering the same area as before, only accumulated half the amount of rubbish as before with ten bags being collected and half a bike frame. Hopefully the day will be a better weather-wise and a few more helpers from the community will join in.
