Entertainment was educational
HEARTS sank as the day of the Martinstown Extravaganza dawned wet and windy for this was one of the major events in aid of the hall funds.
However, thanks to Ann and Ron Matthews' hard work, the cheerfully decorated hall more than compensated for the gloomy weather as the first visitors enjoyed coffee and a chat.
Later on the flow increased in a steady stream queuing up for a bowl of delicious soup and a roll.
Entertainment was ongoing and much appreciated by all.
I found it an education, having previously thought that playing a flute was just blowing in one end to produce notes from the other, rather like the Pied Piper. All that changed as I watched the dexterity involved as well as controlled breathing.
Well done to those three girls who entertained us so beautifully namely, Amie Buttle, Ellie Timms and Gillian McCourtie.
I hope that later on in the following week they all passed their exams. They deserved to. Meanwhile Father Christmas was on duty in his Grotto and kept busy, to judge by the rosy glow on his benevolent face, but of course that may have been due to the fact that he had doubled up on beards? Cedric also cut a dashing figure with his reindeer antlers and flashing red nose.
Afraid that I missed the excellent entertainment by the Brownies and Guides for restricted hours of daylight meant an earlier walk for ESS Fern. However, it was brilliant to learn later that this event had raised the sum of £400 for the village hall funds. Ann Matthews and the committee wish to say a big thank you to all concerned.
