Tribute to a kind, courteous man
THE life of the community is always diminished by the loss of one of its longstanding and most respected members, so sympathies of all the village go to Mrs Ferris and family on the recent death of her husband Geoffrey.
They have been an essential part of village life for over half a century and although in the course of time their sons have grown up and moved elsewhere there are many of us who remember them as friends of our own children.
Many of us will cherish the courteous way in which Geoffrey greeted us whenever we met either in the village shop or in the mobile library van, for he was a great reader.
On a personal note I will forever remember his kind help with daily lifts to Dorchester during that intensely worrying time when my late husband Steve spent many weeks in the old county hospital after a life-threatening farm accident. He did not like horses before then and liked them even less afterwards, but he never forgot Geoffrey who helped so much at that time of need.
That was so typical of Geoffrey, to give practical help in such a quiet way and hopefully his family will be comforted by the knowledge that he has left such happy memories behind him, for to pass the time of day with him made life so much brighter.
The funeral service will have been a private occasion for the family but the local community and many from further afield will no doubt fill St Martin's Church to capacity on the occasion of his Memorial Service at 2pm on Friday, May 2.
THE Mileater walking group are enjoying their weekly sessions of the River Frome walk under the expert leadership of Bruce and Maggie Robertson.
Having started at Evershot they are now around the Lewell Mill area so quite a long way from the finish at Wareham.

This raised the sum of £240.78p for their funds.
