Christmas tree sales to benefit charity
FOLLOWING the success of the 2006 venture, high-quality natural Christmas trees will once again be on sale in Osmington this month to help local charities.
Based on experience last year, all trees will be Nordman Fir (a superior tree which does not drop its needles so much as the traditional tree) in a range of sizes.
Prices will be very competitive, starting at about £20 (exact prices will depend on the final terms negotiated with the supplier) - and all profits will be divided between St Osmund's Church and the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust. Last year's sale raised £880 - let's make it £1,000 this time!
Free delivery can be arranged in Osmington and Poxwell for all trees ordered in advance (delivery outside the parish may be negotiable) with trees being available on or about December 8.
To order your tree, call or email Mary Kempe on 834095, or mary@mkempe.freeserve.co.uk or me on the details above.
Trees remaining after filling advance orders will be sold at Osmington Hill Farm (at the top of the main road) on a self-collect basis this weekend and next.
Helpers will be needed, so if you can spare a couple of hours to help man the stall during either weekend, please contact Mary Kempe (see above).
THE Christmas season would not be complete without carols. This year, everyone, old and young, is invited to take part in an evening of carol singing round the village on Wednesday, December 20.
Meet by the lych gate at 6.30pm for a joyful evening, which also raises money for charity.
The traditional candlelight carol service for all ages in St Osmund's church will be held on Sunday, December 23 at 6.30pm, and will be followed by a social with mince pies and mulled wine or soft drinks.
THE parish council has put in for a precept of £7,730 for next year.
This will be an increase of 4.4 per cent in the parish element of council tax compared to this year, as opposed to the last increase of 11.8 per cent.
With their production of Wonderful Worldwide Christmas, Iain Campbell and his team put on another sparkling Christmas show in the hall to kick off the festive season.
There were packed houses for both performances. Congratulations to all involved, on stage and off. There was plenty of enthusiastic audience participation and a lot of laughs. It was also good to see some very talented new performers and a great team of young dancers. It was a shame the matinee performance had to be cancelled, which will reduce the proceeds.
But it will still have made much-appreciated contributions both to the hall and to combat meningitis - and given a lot of local people a lot of fun.
