Postie retires with villagers' well wishes

| Parish council chairman Michael Hart presents postman Richard Pierce with his retirement gift from the residents of Osmington |
OVER 40 village residents gathered in the bar of the Sunray to say farewell to local postman Richard Pierce as he finished his final delivery round before retiring after many years of service with the Royal Mail.
He had been the regular postman on the Osmington round for the last 7 years and had become a familiar and well-loved figure to the community, always with a cheerful smile and greeting whatever the weather.
Parishioners had collected over £350 towards a retirement gift, and this was presented to Richard by the chairman of the parish council, Michael Hart, together with a card signed by many of the residents of both the village and the Mills.
Richard starts his retirement with a cricketing tour to New Zealand and Australia, and all his many local friends wish him "bon voyage".
IT'S YOUR last chance to get tickets to see and hear the Sunset Café Stompers in the Village Hall on Saturday, March 15, as there are hardly any left.
Last year's concert was a sell-out, and it seems clear that this one will be, too.
For those people who do not already know the Stompers, they are a highly talented group playing New Orleans jazz, blues and ragtime, who have built up a great following around the county and beyond.
Their reappearance in Osmington is an unmissable chance for local residents to experience a great performance on their own doorstep, but there has been a great demand for tickets from outside the parish, so hurry!
The music starts from about 7.30pm, the bar will be open from 7pm, and hot snack refreshments will be on sale.
Tickets cost £8, and can be obtained from Keith Pratt at Buttress Cottage, Church Lane (01305 833847).
All the profits from the concert will go to the funds for maintenance and improvement of Osmington Village Hall, so you can enjoy the music while contributing to a very worthy cause.
THE Osmington Parent and Toddler group meet on Tuesday mornings in Osmington Village Hall.
In order to buy some new equipment and replenish funds the group are holding a spring fayre, on Saturday, March 15, from 10am to noon in the village hall.
Entry costs £1 to include coffee and home made cake.
There will be a variety of stalls including plants, cards, jewellery and a giant Easter raffle. Do please come and support them. Enquiries to 01305 832529
RODDY Coleman is once again generously offering the grounds of The Old Vicarage as a venue for a plant and garden sale in aid of St. Osmund's Church funds.
This year's event is planned for Saturday, May 17.
So, if you are planting seeds, rooting cuttings or dividing plants between now and then, please don't forget to raise a few extra plants for the sale.
Additionally, this year Mary Kempe has packets of seeds for raising bedding plants specifically for the sale - all she needs is some volunteers to nurture them until May.
If you can help, please give Mary a call on 834095. Last year's event raised over £900 for the church, and could have made more if several lines of stock had not run out - so get growing!
