Stompers rock the hall
THE Village Hall was almost visibly rocking last month when the Sunset Café Stompers made their return for this year's concert in Osmington.
As predicted, all the tickets had been sold ahead of time, and the Hall was full to its maximum capacity.
The band's talented repertoire of jazz, blues and ragtime had hundreds of feet tapping, and quite a few couples taking to the dance floor.
With generous support for the bar and the raffle the concert raised some £800 for Village Hall funds, which will be a great help in maintaining this vital community facility.
Sincere thanks are due to all those who donated their time, effort and cash to make the evening such a success.
The Stompers have promised to be back again at the same time next year - don't miss them!
VILLAGERS are encouraged to give full rein to their artistic and creative talents by entering the Scarecrow
Competition throughout the village in the week preceding this year's Plant & Garden Day (see below).
Entrants are invited to create a scarecrow of their own design, to be displayed from Saturday 10th May where it can be seen from the road.
Entry forms are available in the church, and will also be generally distributed.
They need to be returned to Betty Abbott at Cosy Cottage, Village Street, by Tuesday 6th May.
Prizes will be awarded to the best entries as judged by public vote - voting forms will be available in the church porch from 9th May, and need to be handed in at the Village Hall on 17th May, when the results will be announced.
THIS year's Plant & Garden Day is on Saturday 17th May from 1.30pm, and will be at the Village Hall rather than at the Old Vicarage as in previous years.
This should provide better protection against the weather (which has been known to affect this event in the past!), and also give more space for supporting activities. The aim is to raise at least £1000 towards the upkeep of St. Osmund's church.
Any surplus plants, shrubs, vegetables, tools or garden furniture which can be offered for sale are wanted - as well as willing buyers for them.
Bring them to the Hall on the morning of the sale.
Cream teas will be served, and forest bark, manure and garden accessories will be on sale.
Prizes for the raffle, or cakes to sell, would be greatly appreciated. If you can help, or need more details, contact John Newbould on 837384.
All profits go to St. Osmund's Church funds.
SADLY, only a handful of Osmington residents attended the Toddlers Group's Spring Fayre coffee morning in March to sample Caroline's wonderful homemade cakes and buy from stalls which ranged from plants, handmade jewellery, sausages & eggs to a name the teddy' competition.
Fortunately, enough people from outside the village came to make the morning an overall success - it raised over £200 which will go a long way towards running the Toddlers Group for the next 12 months, and should allow them to purchase some much needed new toys.
