Forum pays tribute to popular Lynne

THE Waterside Weymouth Community Forum would like to pay tribute to Councillor Lynne Herbert, who passed away recently.

Lynne was a borough councillor for our area, and will be missed by all those who knew her. Our thoughts are with her husband Brian and the rest of the Family.

  • WE LOOK forward to seeing many more people at the next luncheon club.

We hold them on the first Wednesday of the month, the next being March 5 the second anniversary of the club back to were it started at The New Vic, The Esplanade.

On April 2 we will be returning to the Café Royal on the Esplanade and back to the Railway Tavern on May 7.

If you would like to join us at any of the luncheons please contact Lawrence on 01305 839579 to book a seat and choose from the menu.

  • As you know the Community Forum has taken over the Park Community Centre, Chelmsford Street, and on Saturday, March 8 we are having a joint clean-up with St John's Church, anybody who can help will be more than welcome. Start 10am.

  • As part of our fundraising the forum is holding a jumble sale on Saturday, March 15 from 10 until 2pm.

We are setting up the night before and if anybody can help please come between 3pm and 5pm.

We have quite a store of items, but if you have any items you might feel are suitable for tombola prizes we are holding several tombola stalls on the railway station forecourt during the summer months instead of the annual fair.

The weather has not been kind to us at this event, so we are going to try several when the weather is fine we hope. If anybody has any prizes we could use please contact 839579.

The forum is holding its annual stall on the Esplanade on Sunday, August 31.

  • The forum always has to look at ways of raising money, and one way is advertising in the Newsletter, our rates are very competitive.

If you feel that your company, or the one you work for, might like to advertise please contact me on 07971 716254 and I would be please to visit and explain everything.

We would like to thank our current advertisers and those who did so last year, and we would be grateful if you tell the advertisers that you have seen the ad in our newsletter, so that they know their advertising pays.

    It certainly helps our funds.

Another way to raise funds is by way of printing. We have recently bought a better, faster printing machine and we would be please to provide quotes.

Call 01305 839579 and speak to Lawrence, and in the process your printing is helping our charity raise funds. We all win.

  • As most of you know that PACT (Partners and Communities Together) has been running for some time now and residents have the opportunity to have their say on issues within the area.

Lots of issues have been raised, including rubbish, graffiti, anti-social behaviour, underage drinking, and many more.

Many of these have been investigated and addressed, but remember we still need the residents to be our eyes and ears and report even the smallest incident.

Every little bit of information adds up to a bigger picture. It would be good to get information on the person or people unknown who buy alcohol from the off-licences and then supply it to the underage drinkers who hang around the area.

The contact number is 01305 222222 and ask for PC Mike Green or PSCO Ade Walker, our current Neighbourhood Team.

If you are not already a member of Homewatch please contact Laurie Lloyd our Homewatch co-ordinator on 01305 779426 for details.

Homewatch works and our members have successfully given information to the police leading to arrests. We are also looking for local co-ordinators.

The forum would like to thank PSCO Julian Dingle, who has worked for the last three years in the Park District area, and now he has left to begin training in Dorset Police Force.

We wish Julian good luck in his new career, during his time with us he has made many contacts within the area, and we will really miss him. We hope to see him back after his training.

The Next PACT meeting is on Wednesday, March 26 at the community centre at 7pm.

It is great that the forum's efforts have been recognised and we were delighted that local carpet and vinyl store, Carpets Galore announced an exclusive partnership with the Waterside Community Forum.

The one-year agreement will see Carpets Galore donate over £1,000 to the group, and staff of the company will be encouraged to step forward and get involved in the forum to help the area.

Andrew Cooke, of Carpets Galore says of the deal: "We are delighted to be able to help as a few members of the team including myself grew up in the Park District area, and we can see first hand how the forum has really improved the area over the past 10 years.

"We want to be able to help them implement future plans and raise their awareness further. Carpets Galore will advertise in the forum's monthly newsletters, informing residents of special offers to residents.

  • Councillor David Harris has been an excellent mayor, and this year instead of a mayoral ball he is holding a great parks walk on Sunday, March 30, so please support him.

Entry forms at the Park Community Centre. I believe the route takes you past our Mosaic at Greenhill gardens.

No, there is no truth in the rumour that we are going to change the design, it is there we hope for many years to come.
