It's up to you to make a difference

WITH so much going on this year it is going to be very busy and we will continue in our efforts to improve the area, but we do need the support of ALL residents, including the Polish community.

We have had a special feature in the newsletter and we look forward to working with them to help them integrate into the area.

It is so easy to sit back and leave others to do all the work, but it only takes a few hours from YOU to make such a difference. It is so easy to talk about things between yourselves, but if we know the problem we can help you to resolve it.

  • JUST a reminder that on Thursday, May 1 we have to elect TWO people to the Weymouth & Portland Borough Council.

The forum is non-political, so all we ask is that you USE your VOTE.

  • WE HAVE several teams already for our quiz night at the Somerset Hotel, Queens Street at 7pm on Thursday, April 17, but we still need more.

Please support this as John and Sue have made the venue available to us and we want to fill the bar.

  • IN THE Community Centre we have a quantity of books for sale and key rings suitable for shopping trolleys, and just in, fridge magnets.

If anyone has any unwanted gifts we would like them for our tombola stalls at the Railway Forecourt and on the Esplanade later in the year.

The forum Held its AGM on April 7 and was well attended We had a presentation of the Local Area Plan and a lively discussion about it.

It is hoped all the residents with ideas will write to the borough council before April 21.

It will be very helpful to the planners.

The following were elected to the committee: Ken Whatley, (Chairman), Members Alice Hendrick, John Hutton, Penny Ingleheart, Gordon Lake, Laurie Lloyd, John Mcloughlin, Derek Model, John Morse, Eileen Scutter, Jeff Sinclair.

We are looking for a treasurer so if anyone is interested -please telephone me 07971 716254 to have a chat.

Then we had a discussion regarding the increase of £3 on the parking permits with Coun Christine James and Richard Burgess from Weymouth & Portland Borough Council.

The forum is waiting for detailed figures from the council and then hopefully we will get the chance to talk about anymore increase or even decreases over the next five years.

  • WE ARE very pleased that students from Weymouth College are going to help us with painting parts of the centre.

They are doing the stairwell and both sets of toilets as part of their college work.

This works two ways - we get our decorating done and they get practice for e their course work.

Many thanks to Dave Corbin, Mike Sharples, Angela McCann and of course the students for arranging this.

We look forward to working with the College in the future.

  • THE forum committee would like to thank Dave Burchill, who has decided to retie as Vice-Chairman after ten years.

Despite being busy with running The Post Office in Kings Street, Dave along with his wife Genny has always been very supportive.

They have now retired and will be spending some time on their new boat and catching up with their grandchildren.

Dave will still be chairman of the local PACT, and both of them will be helping out at Forum events as and when they can.

Their help over the years has been invaluable, once again thank you Dave and Genny.
