Ideas needed for play area

I HAVE been contacted by Jo Riddiough regarding the Portesham playground.

She writes, 'We have recently reformed the Portesham Playground Action Group to make the playground located on the Glebe Field safe and also raise funds for a new area.

'Our first job has been to remove the existing play equipment due to safety issues.

'Our next job is to raise funds and plan for the new playground and replace it urgently. We would like to hear from people with ideas for the new playground and also any fundraising suggestions or donations to portesham.playground08@virgin.net'

  • THE Chesil Scout Group invite you to an evening of traditional woodland crafts on Friday, March 14 in the village hall from 7pm to 9pm.

There will be practical demonstrations showing the making of besom brooms and other products and the chance to learn about the management of Dorset woodland; there will be the opportunity for audience participation.

The presenter is Terry Head who has been working in the woodland industry for 30 years and will share his sensitive approach to woodland management that benefits wildlife so much.

There will be refreshments and a raffle and they will ask for a donation to cover Terry's cost and support the scout group. Children must be accompanied by their parents.

  • THE Village Café is definitely catching on.

It is nice to pop down to the hall for a coffee and chat on a Saturday morning. The next will be organised for Artsreach on March 22 at 10am.

  • THE Mothering Sunday service in St Peter's Church this year was rather special; Peter Saunt took the service with his wife Tito and family providing the music.

I have mentioned before the wonderful work Tito does with the children in the Shooting Stars after school club and five of the children, Thea, Amber, Charlotte, Kitty and Christina, each did a reading.

All the children presented their mums with a posy of flowers and then gave all the ladies in the congregation a posy.

There were some very proud parents and grandparents in church that day! Thank you to the Saunt family for the service and music and to Christina and Deirdre for their help with the posies.
