Portesham
Keep our Post Offices open
There will be a public meeting on Wednesday 23rd April in Portesham Village Hall at 7.30pm about a subject important to everyone living in the villages, the closure of rural Post Offices. There will be information and advice from Dorset Community Action, Dorset County Council, Postwatch and the West Dorset District Council. You are asked to come and be counted!'
Chesil Bank Gardening Club's April meeting will be held at Upwey Garden Nursery for a hanging basket demonstration on Tuesday 22nd April. Please note that the time is 7.00pm, not as listed in The Chesil Magazine, you are also warned to wrap up warm.
The gardening club's annual Plant Sale will be from 10am to 11.30am on Saturday May 3rd in Portesham Village Hall. There is always a good selection of ornamental and vegetable plants for sale at very reasonable prices.
The next Village Café will be hosted by St Peter's Church on Saturday 26th April, there will be the usual stalls as well as the tea, coffee, cakes and bacon rolls. The Village Library will also be there with a selection of books, DVDs and CDs.
I have had an e-mail from the charity fighting to retain the Weymouth Carnival. The event this year will be over three days, 19th - 20th August, with all the usual stalls and procession on Wednesday; the procession will be totally foot based, anyone can walk the route in fancy dress or use a novel means of transport that does not rely on an engine. Any individuals or organisations interested in getting involved in any way are asked to telephone Sue Follan on 01305830255
