Village Cafe goes from strength to strength
I DON'T know whose idea the fortnightly Village Café was but it has proved a great success.
It gives the organisation running it the chance to raise awareness of their activities as well as raising much-needed funds; a bacon roll addiction seems to be sweeping the village as a result!
A wide range of people attend, some dropping in for a quick coffee (and bacon roll), some staying for much longer enjoying the company of friends and neighbours and even making new friends.
The next date is on May 10 run by Dierdre Halford for the Children's Society, which will include a soft goods stall and a red tombola.
With Dee's needlework talents I know the soft goods stall will be excellent and I am intrigued by the red tombola.
Future dates include the British Legion on May 24th and the Village Hall Committee's Portesham Showcase' on June 14.
This will be an opportunity to display some items of your craftwork, paintings or photographs and also the chance to see how talented your neighbours are! Contact David McKinna on 871392to book your space.
THERE is a change of date for the British Legion trip to Exbury Gardens; it will now take place on 28th May.
The gardens are well known for their magnificent collection of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias so the earlier date will coincide with the best period of flower. This outing is open to non-members, for more details telephone Des Baker on 01305267617.
MANY of you will have heard of the research that Bill Halford and others have been doing into the history of Portesham in the 20th century, the results of their work so far can now be read on line at portesham.online-today.co.uk as well as some other very interesting items about the village.
MY FAVOURITE gardening event of the year takes place on Thursday, May 8 at Friar Waddon Farmhouse with the Lifeboats grand plant sale and open gardens from 10.30am -2pm.
There is always a huge array of plants, both ornamentals and vegetables, for sale at very good prices.
There will be a produce stall, cake stall and raffle and morning coffee and light lunches will be served. Entrance is £1 and the sale will be undercover if wet.
