Chance to get your plants for summer
THE legendary, long established and eagerly anticipated Scutt Hall plant sale will take place on the morning of Saturday, May 3 between 10pm and noon at the Scutt Hall.
The charity to be supported on this occasion is the Julia's House Childrens' Hospice.
It is always worth dropping in to this traditional local village event, as the range of plants on sale is enormous, plus, of course, the enjoyment of chatting with old friends over a cup of tea and a delicious home made cake or two.
It is also a good opportunity to discuss any gardening problems you might have, for all of the stall holders are extremely knowledgeable on things green and growing.
Mark the date in your diary now and make sure you don't miss the chance of stocking up your garden for the summer months.
THE parish team are organising a Rogation walk for Saturday, May 3.
The day starts with a bus ride, catching the X53 bus at 9.55am from the Kings Statue, 10.05 at the Spice Ship and 10.10 at Osmington Village, alighting at the Red Lion, Winfrith Newburgh.
The route from there is via the church then south west to Sleight Buildings for refreshment before descending Scratchy Bottom down a steep path to Bat's Head Beach for lunch.
Then it's up and over Swyre Head and along the Ridgeway to White Nothe, down into Ringstead and along the coast to Bowleaze.
You will need to take a picnic lunch, including an item to share with others on the walk, and plenty of liquid refreshment to avoid dehydration.
First aid will be available, though hopefully unnecessary, and walk guides will accompany the group.
The party will walk together, and stop at appropriate places to thank God for nature, and to ask his blessing on our relationship with it.
This is a serious walk of about 11 miles in length, open to anyone of secondary school age or above, although minors must be accompanied by an adult. Suitable clothing and footwear is required to suit a range of possible weather conditions.
I have walked much of this route recently, and the views are such as to make any walker very grateful to his maker for creating such beauty for him to enjoy.
EDITH Storey reports that At the April meeting of the Preston cum Sutton Poyntz WI the speaker was Bonny Sartin, a member of the Yetties, but talking on this occasion about smuggling along the south coast during the 16th,17th and 18th centuries, which was a major occupation of the local populace!
The business part of the meeting followed tea; a quiz team was formed to take part in the village hall quiz on May 10. Flower of the month was won by Edith Storey, and the Beach Treasure competition by Brenda Tamblin.'
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 2.15pm in the village hall.
