Scout jumble sale is a great success

  • THE SCOUT and guide spring jumble sale was once again very successful, raising £240 towards the upkeep of the Scutt Hall.

This money will benefit all the members of the scout and guide movement who use the hall, and will go towards providing a new window which is needed to replace one at the back of the hall which is in a poor state of repair. Betty Hennessy would like to thank everyone who contributed, by helping, donating goods or as a customer.

The beach stall will take place on Wednesday, 18 June and is one of the biggest fund raisers of the year. Betty says that they have enough bric-a-brac for this, but would welcome books and items for the tombola, which is always popular.

  • LIZ FROM the Preston Playgroup tells me that they have quite a few fundraising events coming up, the first of these is a sponsored haircut.

Jason Emery, who has a son at playgroup, has agreed to have his hair cut after wearing it half way down his back for over 15 years, and to mark the occasion he is looking for sponsorship for playgroup funds. The hair cut will take place in the early evening of Saturday, 10 May at the Bridge Inn.

The second is their summer fete, the biggest event of the year which they hope will be as successful as the Christmas one. The date chosen is Saturday, 12 June between 11am and 4pm at the Village Hall. There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, ice creams, a barbeque, cream teas, cakes and teas. Any local business that would like a stall - £5 each - or to donate prizes for raffle would be most welcome.

The third and final planned event is another of their very successful Kid's Discos for children of all ages, to be held in June or July. In addition to the music there will be party games and food available. I will give you more information on these events when I receive them, but if you need further details now, contact Liz on 07791869858.

  • PRESTON cum Sutton Poyntz WI will be meeting on Wednesday, 7 May in the Village Hall at 2.15pm for Resolutions' followed by games and a quiz. The competition is Flower of the Month'.

  • ST ANDREW'S Ladies Group meeting on Thursday, 8 May at 8pm in the Mission Hall will be hearing from Roxanne Moss on the subject of flower arranging.

  • A QUIZ night is being held the Village Hall on Saturday, 10 May starting at 7.30pm. Teams will be a maximum of six to eight people and the cost is £5 a person, which will include supper.

In my experience, the more in your team, the more chance you have that someone will know the answer, so make sure you take along another seven friends! There will be a bar available, and also a raffle. All proceeds are in aid of the Village Hall window replacement programme. To book your places, or for more information, give Julie a ring on 837289.
