THE Sutton Poyntz Society AGM at the Mission Hall was attended by over 40 people. The minutes of last year's meeting were approved and Simon Emblen gave his Chairman's report.
He announced that he was standing down as chairman after five years in office, and 10 years before that as treasurer, and thanked his wife Doff who had supported him over all that time. He stressed the need to keep a watchful eye on development in the village, and the problems that might be caused by flooding, since much of the area is on the flood plain of the River Jordan. He expressed sincere thanks to those who had produced the village plan, which had received so many complimentary comments.
Secretary John Sutherland gave his report. The society had 185 paid up members and he was pleased to see one new resident in the audience. In September 2007 Tony Heathershaw had resigned and John Crisp and Graham Embley co-opted, making 11 altogether on the committee. They had met 10 times, with an 81% attendance record, and in November met local councillors to discuss the Local Development Framework and Community Plan, a meeting that may now be held annually. The annual cream teas event had to be cancelled because of a last minute power cut, and the scones and cream were donated to a Macmillan coffee morning.
Thanks were due to Dave Emery for digging out the pond regularly. The council has trimmed all the trees around pond except those with power lines running through them. One dog waste bin had been installed and another available. However he had recently heard that the council would not be emptying dog mess bins in the future. Building was on the increase, and if residents wished to protest they must write themselves, as unless W&PBC receive 4 letters the matter is not referred to the planning committee and Society letter only counts as one. 5 newsletters had been published, and welcoming literature was available for all new residents. 90 people have currently volunteered for the 2008 Village Fayre on Sunday, 29 June, but about 130 are needed. The secretary was thanked for his hard work.
The treasurer's accounts were adopted. He stated that the subscription of £4 per household or £2 per single household were now due.
John Crisp was elected as Chairman, John Sutherland as secretary and John Bellis as treasurer. All other committee members apart from Peter Jones were re-elected, but no replacements volunteered from the audience.
Under AOB a vote of thanks was proposed to the outgoing chairman, Simon Emblen, to loud applause.
Peter Jones, who had resigned from the committee to allow him time to deal with the action plan, stated that Dorset County Council had given expressions of support for each Action Item and that he was looking for help to bring these to a successful conclusion.
The meeting then paused for refreshments before David Dunford described how the switch to digital broadcasting would affect households in the village.
