Mother and Toddler Group restarts

10:46am Monday 22nd September 2008

  • LIZ tells me that due to popular demand the Mother' and Toddler Group has restarted in the Scutt Hall. It takes place every Friday morning during school term time between 10am and 11.30am. The cost is £2 per session or £1 if child is under a year - perhaps not strictly toddlers at that age? I'm a bit out of touch on these matters! They are looking for new faces, and old ones that have yet to return, to join them. Everyone is welcome, because parents grandparents, and childminders all come under the word Mother'; perhaps Adult and Youngster Group would be a more accurate title? Why not drop in on a Friday, to see what they have to offer and enjoy the company of other adults with young children? They will be delighted to see you.
  • THE Preston Pantomime Group performances would definitely be lacking something without music, and over the years they have been very well served by a surprisingly small list of talented musicians who have supported the cast not just at the performances but also at the rehearsals. I can well remember being very grateful for the patience and ability of pianists in the past who have managed to coax a half way passable song out of me - though some of the audience might use other words than half way passable'! The Group are now looking for a keyboard player or pianist to play at the rehearsals, which take place on Wednesday evenings from mid September to the New Year, then additionally on Sunday afternoons or evenings thereafter, until the actual performances throughout the February school half term week. The Group are fun to work with, and this would be a very rewarding post for the right person; a small remuneration is payable. Contact Roxanne on 832531, Christine on 834757 or Julie on 837289 if you would like to help. You might like to become one of the performers - those with dancing and singing experience especially welcome; if so, ring for details.
  • THE August Preston Village Market suffered a little from the inclement weather that was our summer this year. There were fewer stalls, but a steady flow of holiday makers for whom the beach wasn't an option, and, of course, new and old local customers. The friendly atmosphere and quality of the goods on display obviously worked their magic, and the newcomers promised to visit again. A total of £104 was raised to share equally between the Prostate Cancer Charity, which funds research into this prevalent disease, and the Nangora Well Project, to provide clean drinking water for that Ugandan village. The next Village Market will be taking place in the Church Rooms between 10am and noon on Saturday, 11 October. This offers another opportunity to browse amongst the wide selection of stall, and to purchase fresh produce, eggs, crafts, plants and lots more besides, including the chance of a cup of tea! Do drop in to have a look at what's on display.
