2,800 items collected by Second Chance last year

SECOND Chance Furniture in Lynch Lane collected 2,800 donated items last year for redistribution, including 119 wardrobes, 97 double beds and 181 sofas.

That involved a lot of shifting and lifting for the charity's sturdy band of volunteers. The team made 633 deliveries to clients during the year and currently have nearly 800 clients on their books who received furniture from them in 2007.

The new Second Chance website is now up and running, thanks to volunteer Ian Whittaker.

Visit the site on www.scfurniture.org.uk The charity can also be contacted by sending an email to scfurniture@tiscsali.co.uk, or telephone 01305 766621.

If you'd like to get involved, why not give them a call? Donations of appropriate good quality furniture and some smaller items are also appreciated.

  • The Slimming World group that is held at the Wyke Methodist Church Hall at 6pm and 7.30pm every Tuesday evening recently held an Open Group Event along with all other local Slimming World groups in the local area.

This event was designed to encourage people who want to lose weight but are unsure if a slimming group is for them, or might be nervous about turning up to a session and then feeling obliged to join.

If you couldn't make it to that special evening but would like to try the group or find out more please call Sue on 01305 822162, who says: "The most effective way to lose weight is by attending a group where the things you will experience are support, care and fun - there are some fabulous things going on and people making a real difference to their lives."

  • Here's a reminder to parents of the under-5s that there are fun activities for this age group every Thursday from 9.30am-10.30am in Wyke Regis Library. There's no need to book - just turn up.

This is just one of a whole range of services and resources (as well as books) that are offered by the library which is such a vital part of the local community.

It's you, the members of the local community, who play a vital role in ensuring the local branch library remains a thriving, viable information centre conveniently accessible on your doorstep. Use it or lose it' as they say.

  • SEVENTEEN people, both youngsters and adults, were recently presented to the Rt Rev Tim Thornton for confirmation at All Saints' Church.

On a more practical and earthly level, members of the church have additional reasons to rejoice as at long last both a kitchenette and toilet, the latter being suitably accessible for the disabled, have been newly fitted at the church.

The bishop took the opportunity to include an official blessing of these brand-new facilities at the service of Confirmation which was held on Sunday, January 20.
