THE ladies' night held at Wyke Infants in aid of the local Township Charity raised a grand total of £812.
This money will help support the pre school Dalukhanyo in South Africa and kicks off this year's programme of fundraising, hoping to beat last year's total of £4,440 which has helped provide the school with lots of essentials.
The goal for 2008 is to branch out and take on a second school, if sufficient funds are raised.
The event, compered by Nadine Read, co-organiser of the event along with Nicky Maynard, was fabulous, the school hall and corridor full of colour, bustle and noise as everyone did the rounds of all the stalls, 23 in all.
At times it was hard to move, there were so many people there.
Thanks go to the local businesses which supported this venture and the many other people who helped make it such a success, including all those who made the effort to come along.
It was a great antidote to Blue Monday' which had begun the week, officially the most dispiriting day of the year.
There was a whole variety of interesting things to browse at the stalls which included Pampered Chef (with demonstration), Posh Rocks, Partylite, Slimming World, Wowz Design and Print, Posh Frocks and Bridal Gowns, Chic, Serendipity and the Henson Clinic.

Some ladies took the opportunity to chill out with a head massage or manicure. Others lingered to look at Ann's local photos and there were even crafts from local markets in Cape Town on sale at the Township Charity's own stall.
Each stall donated a fantastic raffle prize and there was ample opportunity for comfort eating with a delicious assortment of home made cakes to go with the teas and coffees.
Once again Anne White seems to have spent most of the week baking judging by the size of her culinary contribution - very much appreciated.
All in all this was a really welcome fun night out for girls of all ages in this dreary post Christmas period and a great way to help a good cause. I gather people are already talking about next year so it was obviously a huge success.
Easter is early this year and so, therefore, is the beginning of Lent.
Members of Lanehouse Methodist Church are staging their annual coffee and pancakes coffee morning at the church at 10 am on Shrove Tuesday, February 5.
This includes the usual book stall and raffle. All are welcome.
Commiserations to John and Karen Pearce whose popular Fish and Chip shop Alf's' at Fiveways was beaten by Hennighan's Top Shop, Machynlleth, Powys to top place recently.
They are very proud, however, to have been one of the final three businesses nominated for the national Contribution to Local Community Award, sponsored by Wrights, in recognition of the significant contribution shops can make to a local community.
The award is presented to a shop that has exceeded the expectations of the local community in providing a service second to none. So we won't be surprised if Alfs' is nominated again will we?!
Better luck next time, John and Karen, you deserve it.
