  • For those of you who may be feeling energetic now spring is in the air and already have some experience of line dancing, there are the sessions for improvers which are held in St Edmund's Church Hall, Lane House Rocks, on Monday afternoons from 1.30 to 2pm, and from 8pm to 9pm on Monday evenings.

Telephone Rick on 01305 860496 for further information.

  • The first 'tea and toast' morning was held recently at All Saints Church, Wyke.

The idea is to give people from the early 8am and the later 9.30am services a chance to meet together socially once a month for a cuppa between the two services.

This has been made possible by the opening of the newly-fitted kitchen. The next will be held on Sunday, February 24 and hopefully on the fourth Sunday of every month thereafter.

  • The annual pancake coffee morning which was held at Lanehouse Methodist Church on Pancake Day was well attended and everyone enjoyed their pancake.

A grand total of £116 was raised for the church funds.

  • Fifteen members of Wyke Sisterhood enjoyed a lunch of fish and chips from Alf's, Fiveways. There was also a raffle.

The Sisterhood gave John Pearce from Alf's some donations towards his store of bric-a-brac for table top sales helping raise money towards local charitable projects for the community.

Afterwards more members of the Sisterhood turned up to enjoy an afternoon of poetry with the WI Poets.

  • Local dad Lee McKay is keen to set up a project to help benefit the local community and to work with young people and families living in Wyke.

Lee wants to ensure young people and families feel part of a community where all people are welcomed and valued.

The idea is to set up a community steering group that will be able to provide activities and learning opportunities for young people and families, and source funding.

The vision is to make sure the needs of the community of Wyke are served with an emphasis on the empowerment of young people. Lee has already come up with a huge list of possibilities for Wyke but he now needs help in developing his ideas.

He has teamed up with Julie Hursthouse, community development worker for Weymouth & Portland Borough council, and Wyke councillors.

To help launch this project they are holding an open meeting at Wyke Smugglers on Saturday, March 22, from 10am-noon.

If you want to get involved why not pop along and share your views?

Young people are invited along to speak out about what issue and concerns they have, and what activities they would like to see.

For more information please contact Julie Hursthouse on 01305 838497 or email her at juliehursthouse@weymouth.gov.uk

  • Finally, don't the daffodils outside All Saints School, the yellow and purple planting on the Buxton Road roundabout and the lovely flowers in the Wyke Square planters help lift your spirits during these late winter (or is it early spring?) days?

It's good to see such colourful planting in our public spaces.
