Fields Protection Society gets into fund raising mode
Jenny Stewkesbury recently kicked off the fund raising campaign for the Society for the Protection of Markham and Little Francis with a highly successful coffee morning and raffle which raised over £100.
The society was recently reinstated to inform and bring together local people who are concerned about the future of the town green.
The next fund raising event, a table top sale, will be held on Saturday April 26 from noon to 4pm at Lanehouse Methodist Church Hall on the corner of Lynch Lane. Refreshments will be available.
Although the organisers have already received a number of good quality ornaments, clothes, sports gear and general bric a brac they welcome further donations of saleable items.
If you wish to donate any items for this sale or would like to provide some home baked goodies for the refreshments table please contact Alf or Mary Larkin on 01305 775553. (Collection can be arranged if required).
Anyone interested in joining the society may do so at this event or by telephoning the membership secretary Mary Larkin on 01305 775553, or sending an email to her at alflarkin@btinternet.com
Regular newsletters are available for members, a valuable way of keeping up to speed with developments.
The committee, who have now met for a third time, are busily finalising details of the society's constitution and preparing for the next public meeting which will be held soon.
This will be open to everyone wanting to keep up to date and to add their support to help preserve the status of the fields as a town green.

John and Karen Pearce from Alfs Fish and Chip shop at Fiveways have arranged five coach trips for local pensioners to enjoy this summer. The first two will take place at the end of this month.
Bluebird coaches have kindly offered their coaches free of charge for these trips out into the local countryside.
£141 was raised by the Easter raffle and this money will help provide free ice creams for those going on these trips, as well as enjoying a free dinner on their return, courtesy of Alfs.
The next meeting of Wyke Regis PACT will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, April 16 in the Working Men's Club (opposite the Co-op).
Very few people turned up to last month's meeting which was disappointing.
PACT cannot operate without input from local people so if you want to have a say in issues that concern you and keep up to speed with what's being done locally, please come to this meeting.
Wyke Regis Community Centre annual charity Spring Fayre will take place on Saturday April 19 from noon to 3.30pm.
This year's chosen charity is Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.
Entries of home styled and imaginatively decorated millinery are invited for the all age Spring bonnet parade which will be judged by Caroline Nickinson of Weldmar Cancercare Trust at 1.45pm.
Prizes will be awarded for the following age groups: 0-5, 6-12, 13-59 and bus pass people.
Entertainment will be provided during the afternoon and includes a display by the Amberlite Majorettes at 1pm and the Juno Belly Dance Troupe at 2.30pm.
There will be a variety of stalls.
Home made refreshments will be served throughout.
The grand draw will take place at 3pm.
