Personal best for local runner
 |
| Marathon runner Angela White (centre - in green MacMillan running shirt) surrounded by some of her supporters at a recent 'thank you' coffee morning at her home in Lynch Road |
CONGRATULATIONS to Angela White from Lynch Road who successfully completed the London Marathon in 4 hours 54 minutes, beating her own target time.
Angela has run the marathon once before, in 2005, and has been training hard for a year.
She originally began running for health reasons.
Last time she didn't quite manage to run the whole length, presumably combining rest periods of walking, but this time she did actually run the whole length of the course.
She says the weather conditions helped, although heavy showers along the way meant she was drenched by the time she reached the finish.
She was also greatly encouraged and urged on by the tremendous support she has received from friends, Macmillan (the charity for which she was running), and the general atmosphere of enthusiasm as everyone cheered the runners on at the actual event.
The total raised so far is over £2,500 with more donations still coming in.
Angela wants to express her sincere thanks to everyone who has helped achieve this personal best and more importantly, raise such a great sum for the work of Macmillan.
ON THURSDAY, Aril 24 St. Edmund's Players are holding an open evening in the church hall, Lanehouse Rocks Road, from 7pm to 9pm.
This is being staged (sorry, couldn't resist!) to provide an opportunity for any budding thespians to come and meet present members of the group who are hoping to recruit some new members, including helpers back stage, a vital support team for those who strut the boards.
There will be an exhibition of memorabilia from past shows and tours of the stage.
Refreshments will be served throughout the evening.
Do come along to this, find out more and hopefully sign up to swell the ranks of this popular local drama group.
ALSO at St. Edmund's Church, on Saturday, May 3 starting at 7.30pm, there will be a skittles evening with locally sourced pie (from Wyke Pies) and chips (from Alfs fish and chips) supper.
Other food options are available on request for an additional charge and can be ordered in advance please when ordering tickets.
Soft drinks will be available. Bring your own lagers, wine etc. but glasses are provided.
Tickets are priced £5 and can be ordered by telephoning 01305 787970, 01305 750836 or 01305 785811.
All proceeds will be donated to the cost of St. Edmund's Hall refurbishment.
DESPITE a slow start probably due to the wintry feel to the day, the spring fayre at Wyke Regis Community Centre on Saturday, April 19 was well enough supported to raise approximately £800 plus for this year's chosen local charity, Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.
The fancy bonnet competition, which was judged by Caroline Nickinson from this trust, had a record number of entrants.
Proceeds from the Wyke Weenies stalls and face painting exceeded previous years. Belly dancing was very popular and brightened up a very wet day!
The organisers wish to thank everyone who took the trouble to turn out in such foul weather, braving the rain and the bitter east wind to come and support this event.
