FOUR young sailors who helped to create an iconic image to mark the 1,000 days countdown to the 2012 Olympic Games have received national recognition. The youngsters, all aged between 12 and 14, became involved in the challenge through Weymouth SailLaser’s OnBoard club to mark the big event on October 31 this year.
Now they have been presented with photos of their big day signed by Lord Sebastian Coe, who is chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games.
Emily White of West Stafford, Eleanor Smeaton of Tincleton, Toby Brooker of West Chinnock and Toby Dent of Preston, all sailed around Durdle Door, Lulworth for the photo shoot, which was then distributed nationally in honour of the 1,000 days celebration.
Emma Dawson, chief instructor at SailLaser, said: “The two girls and two boys were chosen at random from our OnBoard club.
“They were towed from Weymouth to Durdle Door early in the morning and then they sailed around Durdle Door for most of the morning and afternoon.
“Emily, Eleanor, Toby and Toby all received personal messages from Lord Coe thanking them for taking part in the 1,000 days photo shoot.”
