IT’S the OAP Olympics – the Phoenix Project is holding its next 2012 legacy activities event on Portland.
It is holding the “grey power” extravaganza at the Osprey Leisure Centre on Wednesday, January 13, for over-50s.
The event is part of the Phoenix Project’s aim to help people aged over 50 adopt healthier lifestyles for the mind, body and spirit.
The action group is tied in with Team Dorset’s drive for a legacy for the county from the 2012 Games.
Rosie Barfoot, who is the Phoenix Project leader, said: “We are extending an open invitation to anyone over 50 to come along for free on January 13 at the Osprey Leisure Centre. “You can kill two birds with one stone: get more active and have some fun doing it.”
The Phoenix Legacy was launched in September last year at the Portland Spa.
The Osprey Leisure Centre at Castletown and the Phoenix Legacy joined forces for the event, which runs from 6pm to 8pm. People aged over 50 will have the chance to try a number of activities. They include free swimming, badminton and table tennis.
There will also be information about activities for wellbeing.
Participants should take swimming costumes and trainers along to the event.
Organisers also hope the event will help people fulfil such new year resolutions as getting fitter, becoming more active, trying something new or socialising more.
