POLICE in Bridport are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward after a stolen car was set alight following a burglary in the town.

Officers were alerted to a car fire at around 11.45pm on Monday, October 5 near the Crown Roundabout on the A35.

The vehicle, a Silver Volkswagen Beetle, is believed to have been deliberately set on fire.

This incident is believed to be linked to a burglary that took place on the same day, between 6pm and the time of the arson, at an address in the St Andrews Road area of Bradpole.

Entry was gained to the property and the car keys were stolen by offenders before the vehicle was driven, abandoned and set alight.

Police Sergeant Darren Stanton, of Bridport police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have seen the VW Beetle, and potentially the offenders, near to the Crown Roundabout prior to it being set alight to contact me with their information.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the St Andrews Road area between 6pm and 11.30pm. 

"Anyone with information should contact police in confidence on 101.”
