FOUR Dorset schools are celebrating their commitment to excellence in science.

Beechcroft St Paul’s Primary School, Chickerell Primary Academy, Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School and Nursery and St George's Primary School have all been awarded Primary Science Quality Mark to celebrate their commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

They join 99 schools across the country that already have the mark, which is recognised by Ofsted school inspectors. It focuses on developing and improving science education in primary schools.

The scheme enables schools to work together to share good practice and is supported by professional development.

The national programme delivered by the University of Hertfordshire's School of Education encourages teacher autonomy and innovation while at the same time offering a clear framework for development.
