THORNLOW Prep students took to the science lab to do some experiments.
In biology the Year 7 and Year 8 students dissected the internal organs of a sheep, pictured below, in order to look at the way food moves down the oesophagus by inserting a marble and simulating peristalsis.
Oliver, from Year 7, said: “This was a real hands on experience, it was amazing.”
Then in chemistry the students set out to explore the sugar content of their favourite breakfast cereals.
Pupils placed some cereal in a test tube, with some water and Benedicts Solution.
The pupils then boiled the test tubes in a water bath for 10 minutes.
The solutions changed colour- red indicated a high sugar content and blue meant there was no sugar.
Finally, students learnt about electromagnetism in physics.
