STUDENT leadership was celebrated at a presentation evening.

Budmouth College recently celebrated its student leadership at a presentation evening with students, staff, governors and parents attending.

The guests of honour were the Mayor of Chickerell John Dean, Mayoress of Chickerell Gillian Dean and the Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Ray Banham.

The evening brought together the different student leadership groups at the college from Years 7 to 11: The Anti-Bullying Council, Peer Mentors, the Action Team, Year Committees and the College Council.

Students from each team gave a short presentation with promotional video. The certificates of achievement were given out by Principal David Akers and the Mayors and Mayoress.

Mr Akers said he was ‘thrilled’ by their contribution to the school.

He said: “The work of the students involved keeps us grounded in our links to our wide and diverse student population as well as keeping us true to our vision of creating opportunities to develop very capable young people.

“These students are genuinely brilliant and are tomorrow’s leaders.”

Seventeen students were awarded Red Ties for their commitment to student leadership.

Dominic Harris, Connor Mills and Lauryn Haskins (all Year 10) as well as Nicholia Fiolaki and Eleanor James (both Year 9) received the higher award of Gold Ties, making them student team leaders.
