| LEARNING THROUGH PLAY: Tracey Sutterby at Sunbeams Nursery on Portland |
TRACEY Sutterby and Stacey Glenn are examples of how successful Paragon Skills Train to Gain courses can be for both the learner and employer.
They are mature learners who decided to have a career change and retrain to become nursery assistants.
They are now nearing completion of their NVQ Level 2 in Childcare and have done the on the job training' part of their course at Sunbeams Nursery on Portland.
Sam McClements, from Sunbeams Nursery, said: "For many mature people who are looking for a change in work direction and don't want to go back into formal education, Train to Gain is the perfect solution.
"Tracey and Stacey have really enjoyed working at the nursery and it has given them the opportunity to learn in a practical environment.
"It is very beneficial for the nursery to have Paragon's NVQ learners working with us as all their training is funded by the Government, which is good for our training budget and means that Tracey and Stacey do not have to self-fund their own training.
"Everyone's a winner."
Paragon Skills NVQ Level 2 in childcare provides the underpinning knowledge that is needed to work on a day-to-day basis in a nursery.
The course gives learners the necessary skills to understand policy and procedures, deal with parents and have a good understanding of child development and learning.
Care divisional director Carolyn Murphy said: "We have a really high success and achievement rate through our apprenticeships in childcare.
"The courses provide a solid stepping stone to a future career in childcare."
Stacey Glenn said: "The support that we have both had from Paragon's Skills has been really good.
"The NVQ Level 2 in childcare provides invaluable 'on the job training' as well as theory and course work.
"I've really enjoyed working at Sunbeams Nursery, I've learned about procedures and how to provide top quality childcare.
"Once I've passed my Level 2, I'll definitely go back to Paragon Skills to help me to progress on to the next level."
Train to Gain is a skills brokerage service, managed and funded by the Learning and Skills Council, that helps employers find the training they need for their employees.
Its aim is to improve the competitiveness of UK businesses through improving their access to good quality training.
