NEW part-time courses are starting for the summer term at colleges in Weymouth and Dorchester.

Some courses have already started and others are still open for applications at campuses in Dorset.

Institutions that run part-time courses during the day and evening include Weymouth College, Kingston Maurward College, near Dorchester, and the Bournemouth and Poole College.

People are being invited to enquire about subject areas for courses at Weymouth College. They are aimed at those who want to gain a qualification, develop a new interest or just meet new people.

The courses cover such areas as music and performing arts, construction, engineering, computing, business, beauty therapy, hospitality and catering.

Other classes are in the fields of teacher training, care and distance learning.

Many of the courses are designed to fit in around work and family commitments.

A spokesman said that the college provides a range of resources and support to help people on their courses.

Courses at Kingston Maurward College, near Dorchester, cover such areas as agriculture, animal care, arboriculture, equine studies, floristry, horticulture, construction, administration and business.

The Bournemouth and Poole College is holding a series of one-day business courses between April and July. They cover such areas as minute taking, appraisals, time management, presentation skills, customer care and discipline and grievance procedures.

Dorset Adult Learning, formerly called Adult Education, also runs part-time classes.

It recently ran a series of taster sessions and has a range of courses starting for the summer term.
