THE sailing adventures of a Budmouth College teacher have helped bring creativity to the classroom.
Maths and ICT teacher at Budmouth, Kay Stibbs, has taken part in the famous 600-mile sailing FastNet Race for more than three years.
Together with her team, Kay has been raising money for charity Sail 4 Cancer since the Fastnet race of 2009, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Kay said: “When I completed the Fastnet Race 2013 on my yacht Draig O’r Mor, I couldn’t wait to tell my classes all about my adventures.
“With numerous practical classroom applications it certainly caught the pupils’ imagination and interest.
“Higher school pupils revising for their GCSE exams practised their vector skills by simulating the navigation involved throughout the race.”
She said that students were enthralled and used their maths and ICT skills throughout the exercise.
The internationally-famous Fastnet Race is a yacht race from Cowes, around Lands End to the Fastnet Rock, off Southern Ireland and back to finish in Plymouth.
