PRIMARY school children in Chickerell took their families on a walk through history.

Chickerell Primary Academy opened its doors to parents and families to show off all of the hard work the children had been doing in their history lessons.

More than 200 people came to share in the children’s learning and were able to see dancing and singing, home-made artefacts, and heard from the pupils, who were very knowledgeable and confident museum curators.

There was a real buzz around the school, with parents and children following a specially-made museum trail throughout the school showcasing exhibitions of the Ancient Greeks, castles, pirates, the Tudors, and from the First and Second World Wars.

Catherine Anders, assistant head teacher, said: “The quality of the children’s work on display was fantastic.

“The children and staff have worked extremely hard to be able to show off their learning from different eras across history.

“This event has been part of a very successful development of the school’s creative curriculum, and key learning skills in history.

“Our school will be hosting more events like this to share the children’s learning in a fun way as other areas of the curriculum are remodelled this year.

“The sheer number of visitors to our school museum just shows that this kind of event is the way to move forwards when welcoming in our school community.

“The pupils loved it too. One pupil told me it had been ‘the best day he had had in school ever.”
