Dorset Adult Learning Scoops Two Major Language Prizes
Dorset Adult Learning is on the look out for native modern language speakers to help teach having scooped two major language teaching prizes thanks to its innovative strategy.
Linguist volunteers who speak fluent French, German and Spanish helped DAL win the European Award for Languages which recognises innovative approaches to language learning. It is co-ordinated by CILT, the National Centre for Languages. The modern foreign languages volunteers also won the Mary Glasgow Language Prize of £2000. The Mary Glasgow Trust grants the award to two of the projects listed for the European Languages Award. An additional £160 was part of the European Award for Languages prize.
Corinne Middlemiss, Curriculum Manager for Languages and Humanities at DAL says: “It was tremendously exciting to win not one, but two prizes and it’s wonderful that the hard work of so many people has been recognised. I was delighted to win the awards for the volunteers in the MFL scheme. I hope that this will show other providers the very positive contribution that fluent volunteers can make to adult language learners and their tutors.”
