YOUNG Enterprise, the national enterprise education provider is expanding in Dorset, delivering a wide range of programmes to young people aged between 4 – 24 to raise their aspirations and understanding of the workplace.
One such programme is called the company programme and allows young people aged 15 – 19 to set up and run their own real business.
Through participating in the programme students not only learn how to set up and run their own company but also many skills that increase their chances of employment such as communication, decision making, team work, initiative and self confidence.
Last year out of the thirteen companies formed, ‘Aspire’ made up with girls from Glenmoor school and Talbot Heath school won the chance to represent Dorset at the Regional finals.
Aspire started by selling pashminas at the Christmas trade fairs, progressing to designing, making and selling the ‘IRap’, their solution to tangled headphones. They came a very respectable third at the Regional final and won the most innovative product award.
Business advisors are now sought to support, guide and assist young people in next years programme. Young Enterprise South West is very grateful to all our supporters in Dorset.
