STUDENTS across Dorset have been celebrating World Book Day.
At Cheselbourne Village School all the students and staff dressed as characters from children’s books.
They spent the day engaged in book-related activities and made story sacks, designed book covers and completed book reviews.
The school has its own book club which regularly meets with other book clubs from the DASP first schools.
Headteacher Bob Duffin dressed as the wardrobe from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He said: “Events such as World Book Day successfully raise children’s interest in books and really encourage reading and a love of books.”
Meanwhile students from Thornlow Preparatory School spent half term getting their entries ready for four competitions to celebrate World Book Day. They created author and book reviews, models based around their favourite stories and new front cover designs for books. Head of art and deputy headmistress Mrs Rowles said: “The pupils’ expression of art was exemplary.”
Head of English, Mr Davies said that all entries were out-standing and demonstrated in depth understanding of literature.
