TWELVE inspirational young people from South West England have been honoured with a Diana Award.

The award is a lifetime award set up in memory of Princess Diana and today has the support of her sons, HRH The Duke of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry, with Prime Minister David Cameron as patron.

It celebrates socially-active young people who have had a monumental impact on the lives of others.

It applies to volunteers, fundraisers, young carers, campaigners and anti-bullying champions.

Tessy Ojo, chief executive, said: “We are incredibly proud to honour these ordinary young people who demonstrate qualities of selflessness, altruism and compassion.

“In the long term we aim not only to award these socially-active young people for their achievements, but also to engage motivate and empower them to do even more through our training and network prog-rammes.”

Young people from Ross on Wye and Winchester (honoured with the Diana Champion Volunteer and Diana Courageous Citizen awards respectively), were recognised, as were three youngsters who hail from Bournemouth.

Harry, Jake and James from Avonbourne Sixth Form College (pictured) were recognised with the Diana Active Campaigner award.
