THE expenses of two more Dorset MPs are set to be revealed tomorrow as the weekend drew two of their Dorset colleagues into the saga.

Liberal Democrat Annette Brooke, Mid Dorset and Poole North, has invited the Echo to go through her claims line by line at her office tomorrow.

She didn’t think any claims were open to question but added ‘when someone else looks you never know’.

“I haven’t claimed anything without asking the fees office first,” said Mrs Brooke.

She said person who stole the MPs’ information was “despicable” but added the Telegraph had unveiled hidden practices. “Flipping homes is a totally new concept to me,” said Mrs Brooke.

Conservative Tobias Ellwood, Bournemouth East, said his expenses would be published online tomorrow before the first of three public meetings on Tuesday at Bournemouth School for Girls at 7pm.

He said: “I am looking forward to explaining the system of MPs’ expenses. A lot of people have already written to me with suggestions on how it should change.

“We need a new election because Parliament is no longer respected.

“Some of the revelations have been shocking. There are different divisions – there’s naivety, greed and there’s corruption.”

It emerged in the Telegraph yesterday that Chris Chope drove a sofa in his Volvo 85 miles from London to his Christchurch constituency for repair work at a cost of £881.

And he also claimed £10,377 for work on the roof his second home in London and £2,600 for a new bathroom. Mr Chope said the sofa craftsman offered value for money and house works were essential repairs.

The Echo’s report on Saturday that Bob Walter, North Dorset, attempted to claim for £1,008 handmade Indian rugs and successfully claimed a £700 residential French course in Bordeaux provoked a strong reaction at bournemouthecho.co.uk.

Harry Day from Blandford wrote: “Bob Walter should be congratulated for posting his expenses online and being totally transparent.”

A Poole reader replied: “You are right. We should congratulate him. Thank you for detailing how you blew our money.”
