A DORSET dairy farmer opened his gates to allow visitors a look behind the scenes.

George Holmes, of Littlewood Farm at Frampton invited other farmers and herd managers from across the county to see cows being milked, welcome newly born calves and sample products made from the farm’s milk.

Minette Batters, vice president of the NFU and Simon Hoare, MP for North Dorset, also attended.

Mr Holmes is an Arla dairy farmer.

He said: “As Arla farmer owners, we’re committed to producing high-quality milk which is full of natural goodness. Opening up our farm to the local community is a great way to help achieve this.

“At a time when our industry faces unprecedented pressure, it is now more important than ever for consumers to recognise the value of dairy, and know that when they buy Arla, they are buying products that directly benefit dairy farmers.”
