DORSET Young Farmers took to the stage to battle it out for the right to represent the county at a regional competition.

The youngsters from different clubs danced, sung and acted but it was Marshwood Vale who were the overall winners of the evening with their drama “Then there was one, too.”

Other entertainment provided by the nine Young Farmers clubs in Dorset included Bond, a county fair sketch and Bugsy Malone. The evening took place at the Electric Palace in Bridport and was judged by Sue Fudge and Lauren Whitehead.

Holly Hounsome (CORR) from Puddletown Young Farmers and Luke Johnson from Marshwood Vale Young Farmers were presented with the Best Individual Performer award. Other members were presented with awards for junior member of the year, senior member of the year and the Best Harvest Supper.

The Harvest Supper is one of the most successful events throughout the year and is only now carried out by Dorset Young Farmers throughout the whole National Young Farmers Clubs. Junior Member of the Year competitors had to take part in interviews and write a CV outlining their achievements in the Club.

County organiser Tracy Hounsome said: “It just goes to show that Young Farmers is not all about farming, there is so much you can gain from the club.

“Not only did they have to act and sing but they also had to do their own lighting and sound for the competition all in a time schedule and some members even wrote their own scripts themselves.

“It was an extremely entertaining evening and the judges had a tough job on their hands.”

The South West Area competition will be held in Weymouth in March.
