COULD you help rehome hens that have been saved from slaughter?

Hundreds of hens are looking for retirement homes and the British Hen Welfare Trust is urging anyone who might be able to take on some of the animals to get in touch.

Fanny, Gloria and June are just three hens who were due to go to slaughter, but were adopted from one of the charity's re-homing points aged 18 months old. They have now been making the most of their retirement in the autumn sunshine.
The charity is running a re-homing date in Sturminster Newton on Sunday, October 2.

Jane Howorth MBE, charity founder, said: “With the summer holidays long gone, now is the perfect time to adopt some of our lovely hens so they can enjoy some autumn sunshine while they adapt to free range life.  If you haven’t tried keeping hens, you have no idea what you’re missing out on!  Please pick up the phone and book as soon as possible.

“Our girls make wonderful pets – they’re inquisitive, endearing and so soft to stroke – and you get the best eggs as a bonus! Hens like Fanny, Gloria and June would be going straight to the slaughterhouse if it were not for kind people giving them loving homes. Adopting some hens is ‘life enriching’ – a phrase used by many of our supporters.”

If you can give a hen a happy home all you need to do is make sure you register on the BHWT’s website at www.bhwt.org.uk and then call 01884 860084.
